General Description
The panorama from this verdant hillside, ringed by a backdrop of the Sabine Mountains matches the picture perfect enchantment of Tuscany while offering easy proximity to the Eternal City of Rome. By car, Rome is just over an hour away or a 10 minute drive leads to a commuter rail stop with parking. In the distance, ancient abbeys flicker in the light of the passing sun. The valley below undulates like a magic carpet caught in a gentle breeze. All around you, hill towns older than Rome beckon for discovery.

Aptly named, the Olive Garden is comprised of three individual homes found amidst the silver groves of an olive oil producing estate. The owners, when in residence, live in one of the houses and share the pool with guests of two rental homes. Fifty yards from the owners' villa and 17 stone steps above the pool level, Cottage Vacuna enjoys a private furnished garden with panoramic views. Farther downhill, 100 yards away is Cottage Saba with a covered terrace, a garden and balconies that revel in the equally intoxicating scenery.

Both country homes are comfortable and have screened windows. With the exception of the ground floor bedroom in Cottage Saba, both cottages are air conditioned. Two baskets of firewood are included in the price. Meals, cleaning service and bicycle rental may be arranged when booking.

A short ride over the unpaved hilly lanes of the estate leads to a paved road that winds its way to Poggio Mirteto in less than five minutes. This pre-Roman citadel of Sabine origin has some worthy sights and shops for immediate needs. Rieti, the artsy provincial capital of the region is within a 30 minute drive as is the Roma Nord exit of the A1.

By car, Rome is just over an hour away, or within a 10 minute drive one can park and ride the commuter rail into the city.

In drives of an hour or so are Orvieto, Tivoli, Todi, Spoleto, Terni and Viterbo. Closer in, the area is full of ancient monasteries, far older hill towns and beautiful rolling hills dappled with 11 lakes and a series of majestic mountains.
