General Description
Just 10 minutes from medieval Assisi with its basilica and priceless works of art lies Due di Spada, a smartly restored, 14th-century farmhouse divided into five separate apartments. There are excellent views of Mount Subasio and of the nearby hills dappled with olive groves and vast sunflower fields that spring to life in July and August. The English-speaking owner lives in one of the units with his two trusted felines.

An in ground pool is set in the back garden and sheltered by shrubs. Each unit has its own furnished outdoor area in the garden. The pool, a barbecue and a pay-for-use washing machine are shared by all.

The restoration of this picturesque estate was undertaken with style and comfort in mind. The interiors are tastefully furnished. Soothing pastel color schemes, well positioned antiques and beamed ceilings create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Each unit has a CD player, satellite television and heated towel racks. Plus, when all four units are taken together, a community room at one end of the farmhouse doubles as the main dining room. It comes equipped with a fireplace, a sink and a stove top. The services of a maid may be arranged when booking.

A restaurant and grocery shops are found in the village of Petrignano, a five minute drive away. Assisi is 10 minutes away by car; Perugia with a Tuesday morning market and tours of Perugina's chocolate factory: 20; Spello or Deruta: 25; Trevi or Foligno: 35; Todi, Montefalco or Gubbio: 45; Spoleto or Cortona: 60; Orvieto: 75; Siena: 90; Florence: 120 and Rome is within a two and a half hour drive.

Reasonable prices, simple yet charming comforts and an excellent location make Due di Spada (the deuce of spades) a winning hand.
